A major operation by the Greek Police is currently underway to locate and arrest Alket Rizai, who failed to return to the correctional facility where he was serving his sentence after being granted a police furlough.
According to statements by Hellenic Police spokesperson Konstantia Dimoglidou, the convict was required to report to prison at 8:00 a.m. on Monday (September 14), which he failed to do.
“We are searching for him throughout Greece.” “Since
he did not report to the correctional facility as required, the Hellenic Police are searching for him not only in the greater Attica region—where he was last seen after the incident at a health-related store—but throughout the entire country. “He had been granted 16 furloughs and had never violated any of them,” Ms. Dimoglidou stated in an interview with ERT.
It should be noted that the convicted felon is alleged to have been involved in a shooting incident early Sunday morning outside a beach bar in Anavyssos, a case that is currently under close scrutiny by the authorities.
Alket Rizai, 48, is known to Greek authorities for his two spectacular helicopter escapes from Korydallos Prison, in 2006 and 2009, along with Vasilis Paleokostas.
The convict has been convicted of serious crimes and has repeatedly been the focus of law enforcement authorities’ attention.
