Two consecutive search-and-rescue operations involving foreign nationals took place within a few hours in the waters south of Agia Galini, with a total of approximately 80 people being rescued by Coast Guard vessels.
The first incident was reported last night, when a Frontex aircraft spotted a boat approximately 50 nautical miles south of Agia Galini.
Under the coordination of the Joint Search and Rescue Coordination Center (EKSE), a Coast Guard vessel rushed to the area and rescued approximately 40 foreign nationals, who were transported to the port of Agia Galini.
A few hours later, in the early morning hours, another incident was reported in the same broader maritime area. A Frontex unmanned aerial vehicle spotted a second boat approximately 52 nautical miles south of Agia Galini.
In this second instance as well, under the coordination of the Joint Rescue Coordination Center (EKSE), a Coast Guard vessel rescued approximately 40 foreign nationals, who were also transported to the port of Agia Galini.
