A violent incident unfolded in the early hours of Sunday (August 16) in Kalamaria, Thessaloniki, when five Roma men attacked a 60-year-old man who had complained about the volume of their music, as well as the police officers who rushed to the scene.
The incident occurred shortly after midnight in the Foinikas neighborhood, when the five men, aged 27 to 42, initially attacked a 60-year-old Iranian man who had complained about the disturbance they were causing, as they had the music turned up full blast on their speakers.
OPKE police officers rushed to the scene. As soon as the men saw the officers, they began to curse at them and threaten them, while refusing to comply with their instructions. In fact, during the incident, they attacked the officers and attempted to flee, but were unsuccessful.
While the police officers were trying to subdue the suspects, a 40-year-old man among those arrested helped another person escape from the scene, thereby avoiding arrest. Fifteen hunting cartridges, a speaker, an amplifier, and a mixer were found and seized at the scene. The five arrested individuals will be brought before the prosecutor.
