The head of the independent anti-money laundering authority, former deputy prosecutor of the Supreme CourtCharalambos Vourliotis, has proceeded to freeze the assets of LAOS party president Filippos Kampouris.
In fact, this marks the first time that the assets of a political party leader have been frozen. Specifically, an investigation by the authority revealed evidence of money laundering involving 12 individuals and 32 legal entities—companies.
According to reports, the independent authority’s freeze order also extends to the extra-parliamentary party, as it is alleged to have been used as a vehicle for money laundering.
Mr. Vourliotis’s freezing order includes the assets of all natural and legal persons who are also under investigation by the judiciary. Specifically, five properties in areas of the southern suburbs and in the surrounding region have been identified and frozen to date.
In addition, eight vehicles have been seized, four of which are reportedly owned by LA.O.S. The seizure orders and the Authority’s case file have already been forwarded to the competent prosecutor.
