Two tourists were attacked with a knife at the entrance to the Acropolis archaeological site on the morning of Tuesday, July 21.
Specifically, according to the Hellenic Police, at approximately 8:05 a.m., a 60-year-old man attacked a Greek-American tourist couple—a 53-year-old man and a 48-year-old woman—with a knife.
The woman sustained a minor injury to her arm, while the man suffered a more serious injury to his leg. Officers from the DI.AS. Unit, who rushed to the scene, applied a tourniquet to the man’s leg to stop the bleeding; an EKAB ambulance then arrived and provided first aid.
The two tourists were then transported to the “Red Cross” Hospital, where they are being treated and are out of danger.
The perpetrator, who is reportedly suffering from mental health issues and has a criminal record, was subdued and arrested by officers from the Athens Police Department.
