Authorities have located a vehicle believed to be connected to the escape of the Albanian prisoner from the Serres hospital.
The vehicle was found near the hospital, and a search of its interior revealed a Kalashnikov rifle and bullets.
At the same time, a burned-out car was found in Volvi that is believed to be involved in the case.
The Greek Police are currently conducting a manhunt to locate the inmate who escaped from Serres Hospital.
According to reports, his accomplices, dressed as police officers, allegedly stormed the premises, disarmed the officers escorting him, and freed him.
Shortly after 11 p.m., the prisoner stated that he was feeling unwell and was transported to Serres Hospital to undergo medical examinations. There, according to the same reports, his accomplices were waiting for him; they were dressed as police officers from the protection unit and had a car with a flashing light that looked like a patrol car to make them appear more convincing.
The perpetrators managed to disarm the police officers escorting the detainee and then took him with them, fleeing the hospital.
The defendant —a convict serving a lengthy sentence for drug and weapons offenses—was being held in prison, as he had allegedly been involved in several incidents in the past, including shootings and, in fact, in broad daylight in Thessaloniki.
The Greek Police are conducting an active investigation to locate the inmate, as well as the other perpetrators.
