The fire that broke out in low vegetation at noon on Thursday (August 13) between Siviri and Kassandra in Chalkidiki currently has no active front.
However, authorities remain on alert as strong winds are blowing in the area and there is a risk of the fire reigniting.
According to initial estimates, several homes have been destroyed in the Kassandra area.
As reported by Fire Department spokesperson Efi Papavramopoulou, two firefighters have sustained minor injuries.
According to reports, one suffered burns while the other sustained an injury to his leg (a sprain).
Meanwhile, the deputy regional governor of the Regional Unit of Chalkidiki, Yiannis Koufidis, reported that the fire has caused serious damage to infrastructure, including the wastewater treatment plant and the theater in Siviri.
According to a report from the Fire Department, additional forces have been deployed, and 142 firefighters, along with 4 foot patrol teams from the 2nd EMODE and 51 vehicles, while 9 aircraft and 7 helicopters have been deployed, one of which is being used for coordination.
Local government water trucks and heavy equipment are assisting in the firefighting operation.
A dramatic rescue operation took place in Chalkidiki, as 347 people were transported by boat to a safe location.
