The 68-year-old woman, who allegedly buried her mother in her backyard in order to collect her pension, is offering vague answers and citing… privacy concerns, further intensifying the thriller that has been unfolding over the past few hours in Marathon.
Speaking to protothema.gr on Friday morning—and even though her mother’s remains have not yet been located despite extensive searches of the property—the 68-year-old woman claimed that… she does not remember where she buried her mother.
“My mother was very old. She died of natural causes. I don’t know; I don’t remember where I put her. I didn’t hold a funeral for her,” the woman said at first.
When asked why she didn’t hold a funeral for her, the 68-year-old replied, “These are personal matters…”
Despite the 68-year-old’s refusal to provide answers regarding the case—which began to come to light about two weeks ago when the elderly woman’s granddaughter filed a complaint stating she hadn’t seen her grandmotherfor ten years, the other grandson of the missing woman seems certain that “my mother has done something illegal, but she won’t even tell me what she’s done.”

“She told me she had taken care of it”
Speaking earlier to protothema.gr, the grandson of the missing elderly woman—who had been away from home in recent years and was living with his father in the countryside— said that his mother never revealed to him the macabre acts she committed after his grandmother’s death.
As he said, the last time he saw the elderly woman, she was alive, and from then on, the 68-year-old woman, to reassure him, told him that she had “taken care of” the matter with his grandmother.
“I had nothing to do with it. As for my mother, I don’t know exactly what she did because I wasn’t there all the time. My grandmother passed away years ago, but she generally lied to me. She told me she’d taken care of it, that she’d settled it. In the end, she said she’d buried her there, even though my grandmother wasn’t there. “I don’t know, she lies to everyone. And she’s not doing well—she’s really declined over the last 2–3 years and can’t manage,” says the 90-year-old’s grandson.
“Anyway, she told me this about Grandma—that she’d taken care of her and so on. The last time I saw her, she was still alive. And then she’d tell me, ‘Don’t worry, okay, I’ve taken care of it,’ and I just left it at that. My mother and I would see each other, but not all the time because I was away; I was in Trikala with my father on business,” concludes the elderly woman’s grandson.
The complaint that triggered the investigation
The “tangle” of this chilling case began to unravel about two weeks ago when the elderly woman’s granddaughter reported to the authorities that she hadn’t seen her grandmother in ten years.
According to her, the elderly woman, who would be 90 years old today, lived with her 68-year-old daughter and grandson in a house in the Agios Panteleimonas neighborhood of Marathon.
Following the complaint filed by the other granddaughter, police officers searched for the elderly woman’s name in the eEFKA database but found that her death had not been reported, prompting them to launch an investigation.
