Residents in Mesolongi Square, in Pagrati, are in shock after a man in an advanced state of decomposition was found yesterday afternoon in an apartment building on Astydamantos Street.
For at least 10 days, everyone had noticed a strong foul odor coming from the first-floor apartment and suspected that something had happened to the two brothers.

Both had been dealing with chronic mental health issues and, according to their neighbors, often caused problems in the apartment building with their behavior.
“They were both sick. They didn’t fight, but the apartment always smelled bad. It was filthy. But for the past 10 days, the smell had been particularly strong. We hadn’t heard any shouting or arguments between them,” a resident of the neighboring apartment building told protothema.gr.
In fact, lately their neighbors hadn’t seen them out on the street—only one of the brothers would go out onto the balcony and sit there.
“He used to sit on the balcony, but I hadn’t seen them for a year. They’d been shut inside for a year. No one ever went out.
It had been smelling bad lately, and that’s why they were found. They always lived here; the house is theirs. Their mother and father have passed away,” said another local resident.
