Six foreign nationals in Thessaloniki endured nightmarish moments at the hands of a man and a woman who held them captive, beating and threatening them.
A 27-year-old Pakistani man and a 24-year-old Greek woman were arrested yesterday in Thessaloniki; they are alleged to have illegally held the victims captive in a house in the Dendropotamos area.
According to the Greek police, the authorities’ investigation revealed that the two individuals who were arrested were illegally holding the six foreign nationals from Pakistan and Afghanistan inside the house, beating them, threatened them, and had confiscated their cell phones, making it impossible for the foreign nationals to communicate with their relatives and the authorities.
As part of an investigation into the illegal transport of individuals lacking documents proving their legal residence in Greece, officers from the Thessaloniki Immigration Management Division, in an operation assisted by officers from the Crime Prevention and Suppression Division, arrested the two individuals yesterday at noon.
It should be noted that the 27-year-old Pakistani national did not have the necessary documents.
Charges were filed against the two arrested individuals, as appropriate, for the offenses of kidnapping in conspiracy, providing lodging in conspiracy, and aiding and abetting the smuggling of illegal immigrants within the country.
At the same time, a sum of money, three cell phones, and a wooden stick were seized.
The 27-year-old Pakistani suspect attempted to flee but was immediately apprehended.
The suspects will be brought to justice.
