Nightmare for a young woman in Heraklion: He whipped her with a cable because she refused to go with him

The woman filed a complaint against her partner after the latest incident and claimed that she had been living in fear

Another serious case of domestic violence has come to light in Heraklion, with the victim being a young woman from Syria, who decided to break her silence and report the man who, she claims, repeatedly abused her.

According to her complaint, her partner hit her yet again—this time with a TV cable—because she refused to go with him to Tylissos, where, she said, they were going to stay in a shack.

As reported by the local website patris.gr, the woman arrived at the police station with her two minor children, a boy and a girl, as well as her younger sister, whom she cares for, and described to the police the difficult times she said she had been through.

According to her statement, the man has hit her many times in the past, and the most recent incident was accompanied, she said, by threats that he would kill her if she did not do what he asked.

At the time of the latest incident, her two children were at school.

She sought help but found no support

The woman reportedly tried to seek help even from members of her community living in Heraklion, but was unable to find a solution. As she herself stated, the response she received was that “we cannot intervene.”

The police officers handling the case tried to locate her foreign partner, but he has not been found so far. According to information from a local website, this man is not the father of her children.

While she was at the police station, the children remained there for hours, where police officers ensured their safety and provided support until a solution for their temporary housing could be found.

Temporary shelter was arranged through the SOS 15900 Hotline, a nationwide 24-hour service for women facing domestic violence.

Eventually, a hotel room was found in the city so that the woman and her minor family members could leave the environment in which, as she reported, she had been living in fear.
