The defendant claimed that there was indeed a verbal altercation and physical contact on his part toward the 82-year-old victim, but denied striking him on the head.
Regarding the 21-year-old defendant, who is alleged to be a mere accomplice, the judicial authorities ordered a psychiatric evaluation.
The incident occurred shortly before 10 a.m., on Vouliagmeni Beach, where an 82-year-old retired Navy admiral lost his life following a scuffle with a 76-year-old man, while a 21-year-old woman, who was with the 76-year-old man, was also involved in the incident.
The two elderly men initially exchanged verbal insults, and then the tension escalated, leading to a physical altercation.
After the scuffle, the 82-year-old collapsed and went into cardiac arrest. A nurse who was at Vouliagmeni Beach immediately began CPR, while an attempt was also made to resuscitate him using the defibrillator available on site.
The ambulance crew that arrived at the scene continued these efforts, using a defibrillator. The 82-year-old man was transported to the Asclepieion Hospital in Voula, where, despite resuscitation efforts, he was pronounced dead approximately one hour after the incident.
