Security personnel from the Piraeus Central Port Authority conduct intensive inspections daily at the Port of Piraeus to prevent and suppress illegal activities, with particular emphasis on passenger ship areas and the movement of passengers and luggage.
As part of these checks, on the afternoon of August 20, officers from the Central Port Authority’s Security Division, assisted by a drug-detection dog from the Hellenic Coast Guard, conducted an inspection of a passenger-car ferry docked at the main port of Piraeus.
During the inspection, a 20-year-old Albanian national was identified, who was reportedly carrying a metal grater with traces of raw cannabis in his carry-on luggage.
A body search followed, during which, according to the Coast Guard, 22.3 grams of cocaine, 100.4 grams of processed cannabis, and 33 grams of raw cannabis plant material, all in separate packages. A cell phone was also seized.
A further review of the 20-year-old’s records revealed that two national administrative measures had been issued against him, which require him to report to the police station in his place of residence.
The 20-year-old was arrested for violating the law on addictive substances, and the preliminary investigation is being conducted by the Piraeus Central Port Authority. The seized substances will be sent to the General State Chemical Laboratory for analysis.
