A tragedy occurred on Saturday afternoon (August 8) on Paros, where a four-year-old boy lost his life in a beach bar pool located on one of the island’s most popular and famous beaches. The parents and the owner are being charged with manslaughter by negligence but have been released.
According to information from protothema.gr, the child was found unconscious by two young women, and the bartender dived into the pool and pulled him out. According to the same sources, the parents were at the beach bar but not near the 4-year-old, while the business owner is listed as the lifeguard on duty.
There are two interconnected pools on the premises, and the exact circumstances under which the 4-year-old ended up in the water without being noticed in time are currently under investigation.
The relevant authorities were immediately mobilized, and an EKAB ambulance rushed to the scene. The child was transported to the Health Center, but despite efforts to save him, he could not be revived.
Police authorities are gathering statements and evidence to determine exactly what happened before the child was found in the pool, who was supervising him at that time, and whether other individuals bear any responsibility. Police officers brought in the parents and the owner for questioning. The parents were released, while the owner remains in custody and will be brought before the prosecutor. The preliminary investigation is ongoing.
