Police authorities in Argos Orestiko arrested a woman, following a complaint by her niece alleging a verbal attack involving derogatory remarks about her physical appearance.
According to Greek media, the incident occurred on the evening of Wednesday, July 15, when the two relatives had a heated argument. During the argument, the aunt allegedly called her niece “fat,” using offensive expressions related to her physical characteristics.
The young woman went to the Argos Orestiko Police Station and filed a complaint against her aunt. The case was taken over by the Domestic Violence Response Office of the Kastoria Police Department, and, after the competent prosecutor was notified, an order was issued for the immediate arrest of the accused under the procedure for offenses committed in flagrante delicto.
The authorities determined that the remarks directed at the woman fell under the provisions of the anti-racism law, as they constituted insults and discriminatory treatment based on physical characteristics (body shaming). The arrested woman was detained at the Argos Orestiko Police Station and is expected to be brought before the prosecutor, who will decide on her further criminal proceedings.
