Rena Dourou is the new chair of the SYRIZA-PS Parliamentary Group following today’s vote.
Eight SYRIZA MPs took part in the vote: Yiannis Amanatidis, Nikos Pappas, Pavlos Polakis, Theophilos Xanthopoulos, Elena Akrita, Giorgos Papaeliou, Christos Giannoulis, and Rena Dourou herself. The new president was elected with 7 votes in favor and 1 blank ballot.
Former chair Socrates Famellos did not take part in the vote, although he remains a member of the parliamentary group. He had accused the party of scheming to reinstate Pavlos Polakis, whom he had previously expelled.
It should be noted that yesterday, Pavlos Polakis, the MP from Chania, withdrew from the race for the presidency.
Today, the party’s Central Committee is also meeting to elect a new secretary and an electoral committee, and to chart the party’s roadmap for the elections.
