An alarm was raised at the Fire Department following the collapse of a four-story apartment building in Petralona, at 22 Alkminis Street.
The Fire Department rushed to the scene, specifically 30 firefighters with 8 vehicles, the 1st Special Rescue Unit (EMAK), and two specialized search-and-rescue dogs. The Hellenic Police, EKAB, DEFA, and DEDDIE also assisted.
According to the Fire Department, based on the information available so far, the four-story apartment building consists of seven apartments, and there were reports of four people trapped, who were eventually located.
According to initial reports, the collapse occurred while work was being carried out on the adjacent building, and the excavation work compromised the foundations of the building that collapsed.
Authorities have taken five people into custody: four workers and the owner of the adjacent building.
