A total of 86 foreign nationals were located and rescued during two operations by the Coast Guard in waters south of Crete, under the coordination of the Joint Search and Rescue Coordination Center.
According to the Greek Coast Guard, during the first operation, a Coast Guard patrol boat located a small boat carrying 37 people, five nautical miles southwest of Ierapetra. Those rescued were safely transported to the city’s port.
In a second operation, a patrol boat located and rescued 49 foreign nationals aboard a small boat, 45 nautical miles southeast of Kala Limena.
The rescued individuals are being transported to the port of Kala Limena.
