Cypriots on the client list of the center where Mazonakis “disappeared”; blood-drawing machines installed illegally

The services offered by the clinic, as advertised

A clientele that, according to reports, was not limited to ordinary private individuals, but included businesspeople, wealthy individuals, and well-known figures from the music and entertainment industries, appears to have been built up in recent years by the clinic where Giorgos Mazonakis passed away and which is now at the center of the investigation. The clinic also appears to have provided personalized services, including ticket reservations, accommodations, and more.

It is worth noting that both Ilias Theodoropoulos and Ioanna Gaka used the same address, each promoting their own business and services online and on social media.

Of particular interest is the fact that her clientele did not come solely from Greece. According to reports, people traveled to Athens even from Cyprus to visit the clinic. Among them were reportedly businesspeople as well as figures from the arts community, a fact that explains, to some extent, the highly organized service model that had developed around its offerings.

The image the clinic itself projected through its website was markedly different from that of an ordinary private practice. Patients could, at least according to the advertisements, entrust almost the entire organization of their trip and stay to the staff.

The services offered included, among other things, airline and hotel reservations, transportation to and from the airport, scheduling appointments, assistance with legal documents and procedures for foreign nationals, international cuisine, and even the option to arrange hospitalization.

Even more distinctive was the 24-hour concierge service. As the clinic itself stated in its informational materials, this service handled the travel needs of both the patient and their companions “from the moment of arrival until the moment of departure.” In addition, each patient could have a personal patient liaison manager—that is, a designated individual serving as the primary point of contact throughout their stay.

This facility appears to have been designed specifically for a clientele with high expectations and financial means, as well as for people who traveled to Athens specifically to receive its services. The model was more reminiscent of a premium medical tourism service, where treatment is combined with arrangements for transportation, lodging, and personalized service.

The main service was the so-called INUSpheresis, which the clinic presented as a modern, high-tech form of plasma purification. According to its own claims, special filters were used to remove substances from the body that were described as environmental toxins, inflammatory agents, certain antibodies, and other particles. The same material noted that the method was applied to a range of conditions, from exposure to environmental pollutants and lipid disorders to chronic inflammation, rheumatic and autoimmune diseases.

These specific descriptions constitute the claims with which the clinic presented the method and should not be confused with an independent assessment of its effectiveness or suitability for each patient.

At the same time, particular importance is attached to who was working for or collaborating with the clinic and which of them were on the premises at the critical time under investigation. Its official website listed four staff members with specific roles: a clinical dietitian, a nurse, a physical therapist, and the concierge manager.

These staff members are expected to be called to testify in order to clarify the facility’s operating conditions, each person’s responsibilities, and who was actually on the premises during the critical hours. Who was present when Giorgos Mazonakis suffered a cardiac arrest remains a key point that needs to be clarified.

The Greek FBI left with a bag of evidence and four files

Shortly before 4:00 p.m., officers from the Greek “FBI” left the private clinic on Karneadou Street in Kolonaki, where Giorgos Mazonakis lost his life.

The collected material was loaded into Hellenic Police vehicles parked outside the building and is to be transported to the relevant agencies and laboratories to be examined as part of the investigation into the clinic’s operating conditions. Police officers conducted a thorough search of the premises owned by Ilias Theodoropoulos and Ioanna Gaka, where Giorgos Mazonakis suffered a cardiac arrest one day earlier.

Plasmapheresis machines installed illegally

Authorities discovered two plasma-collection machines following a thorough investigation at the Stem Cell clinic in Kolonaki, where Giorgos Mazonakis suffered a cardiac arrest that resulted in his death. According to the Athens Medical Association, following an autopsy by the relevant team, two plasmapheresis machines—among other items—were found, which are prohibited from being installed in a clinic.

The Athens Medical Association reiterated that these specific clinics, which housed an internist and a physician without a specialty, had been inspected repeatedly, most recently in 2024 and 2025, and at that time no plasma removal machines had been found on the premises.

“The Athens Medical Association had issued certificates of operation for a pathology clinic and a general practice clinic, which were housed in the same building. Plasmapheresis is not permitted in these facilities, as it is a complex medical procedure that is performed only when there is a clear medical indication, by appropriately trained personnel and never in clinics that lack the capacity to manage potential complications,” the report states.

The ISA’s Statement

Following the death of Giorgos Mazonakis and the investigation into the circumstances under which he underwent plasmapheresis, the Athens Medical Association immediately conducted an inspection of the clinic. During the inspection, the AMA team identified, among other things, two plasma exchange machines that are prohibited from being installed in a doctor’s office.

It should be noted that these specific medical offices, which housed an internist and a physician without a specialty, had been inspected repeatedly, most recently in 2024 and 2025. At the time of these on-site inspections, no hemodialysis machines were found to be in operation.

The Athens Medical Association had issued certificates authorizing the operation of a pathology clinic and a general practice clinic, which were housed in the same building.

Plasmapheresis is not permitted on these premises, as it is a complex medical procedure that must be performed only when there is a clear medical indication, by properly trained personnel, and never in clinics that lack the capacity to manage potential complications.

It should be noted that the Athens Medical Association (ISA), in addition to the inspections it conducts to issue certificates of operation for medical clinics, also conducts unannounced, random inspections and on-site investigations on its own initiative to verify compliance with the law and established safety regulations.

Commenting on the matter, ISA President George Patoulis stated: “Patient safety is a non-negotiable priority. The ISA conducts inspections to ensure that primary care providers operate in accordance with the law.

“For any violations that are identified, the administrative sanctions provided for by law will be imposed, and the competent authorities will be notified.”
