A major operation has been underway since Thursday morning in the bay of Ierapetra to recover and remove World War II World War II, which was discovered on the seabed in the area last August.
According to neakriti.gr, a specialized team from the Coast Guard is on site, with divers conducting underwater searches since early this morning to locate and safely recover the munitions.
The operation is being carried out with extreme caution, as the munitions are being gradually retrieved from the seabed and gathered together for safe transport.
An EKAB ambulance is on standby in the area as a precaution, given the nature and risk involved in the operation.
Once the recovery is complete, the munitions will be transported to a remote and secure location, where the prescribed procedure for their neutralization will be followed.
The operation is continuing under strict security measures, with the relevant authorities remaining on site until the removal of the munitions is complete.
