An incident involving a 20-year-old man who is reportedly serving his military service, who drew a gun he had in his possession and threatened a bar owner, occurred on Sunday afternoon in a coastal area of the municipality of Archanes-Asterousia in Crete.

According to information from patris.gr, the 20-year-old, who was under the influence of alcohol, was at another location when, for unknown reasons, he went to his fellow villager’s bar and threatened him with a gun.

Other reports indicate that there had been no prior incident and that when the incident occurred, the 20-year-old soldier’s gun fell to the floor, and a 25-year-old man who found it threw it onto a rooftop.

The pistol, along with a magazine and two rounds of ammunition, was located and confiscated by police, and the person who threw it was arrested for harboring a weapon, while the alleged perpetrator was arrested by police even though he had already left the scene

According to police sources, the young man who was arrested and is being brought before the prosecutor today had fired shots at a house a few months ago, and charges had been filed against him

The official police statement notes that, “two (2) Greek nationals were arrested yesterday (July 12, 2026) in the municipality of Archanes-Asterousia by officers from the Archanes Police Stationand the Mesara Police Operations Division, two (2) Greek nationals accused of offenses under the Weapons Act, threats, and harboring a criminal.

Specifically, yesterday (July 12, 2026) in the afternoon, in an area of the aforementioned municipality, a 20-year-old man carrying a firearm was loitering near a health-related business, causing fear and concern among the patrons and the business owners present.

He was immediately located and arrested by officers from the aforementioned departments; as the preliminary police investigation revealed, another 25-year-old Greek national had taken possession of the weapon and concealed it in order to prevent the 20-year-old from being prosecuted. The weapon in question—a pistol—was located and confiscated along with a magazine and two rounds of ammunition.

The arrested individuals were taken to the competent prosecutor’s office. The preliminary investigation is being conducted by the Asterousia Police Department.”
