"We are ready to defend our national integrity."

A clear message to Turkey that Greece seeks dialogue and good-neighborly relations, but will not accept threats, instructions, or challenges to its sovereign rights. Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis sent this message from Kastellorizo, choosing the easternmost tip of the country to restate Greece’s position against any revisionist ambitions.

“We do not threaten anyone, but neither do we accept threats or dictates from anyone. We are ready to defend our national integrity and our sovereign rights,” the prime minister emphasized, while making it clear that, for Athens, dialogue is “a choice rooted in self-confidence and faith in international law.” As he pointed out, on Kastellorizo, the Greek borders coincide with those of the European Union, meaning that Megisti’s message transcends national boundaries.

The prime minister described the government’s policy using the three-pronged approach of “security, stability, and consistency,” emphasizing that the country pursues a “responsible, patriotic, and realistic foreign policy,” which it combines with the continuous strengthening of its deterrent capabilities.

“It is a dual priority that today allows Greece to be recognized as a force for security and peace throughout the region,” he said.

Addressing the neighboring country directly, he emphasized that Greece seeks friendly relations, free of tensions and provocations, and committed to international law and the law of the sea.

He set a clear boundary, however: “Our prudence must not be interpreted as weakness.”

Mr. Mitsotakis noted that Greece and Turkey are two countries that “geography itself has destined to coexist,” immediately adding that Athens does not threaten anyone, nor will it accept threats or instructions from anyone.
