Two more boats carrying approximately 87 migrants were spotted overnight in the waters south of Crete, about 21 nautical miles south and southeast of Kalo Limena.
The boats were spotted by a FRONTEX aircraft, under the coordination of the Joint Search and Rescue Coordination Center (EKSE). A rescue operation was then carried out by a Coast Guard patrol boat.
Those rescued were transported to the port of Agia Galini, while, according to reports, weather conditions in the area were favorable.
This latest operation comes just a few hours after yet another wave of arrivals and rescues off the southern coast of Crete. Yesterday, a total of 240 people were located and rescued off the coast of Kala Limena, Heraklion, in five separate operations.
With this latest rescue, the number of migrants located and rescued during these operations now stands at approximately 327, confirming that Crete and Gavdos remain key entry points from the coast of Africa.
