An alarm was sounded on Samos yesterday at 10:30 p.m., when the Coast Guard was notified of a shipwreck involving foreign nationals in the Mesaria sea area, near the Turkish coast. A large-scale search and rescue operation was immediately launched in the waters north-northeast of Karlovasi on Samos.
According to reports, the Turkish Coast Guard rescued 34 people, while three to six people are still missing.
Three Coast Guard patrol boats, the Greek Rescue Team’s rescue vessel “Albatros,” and a Super Puma helicopter are participating in the operation. At the same time, coordinated searches were conducted on land by Coast Guard and Greek Police forces along the coastline. The searches are ongoing.
