The maritime drone spotted off the coast of Lefkada a few days ago is Ukrainian, Greek Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias, in a statement as he arrived at the meeting of EU defense ministers in Brussels.
As Mr. Dendias said, “I will brief my colleagues—with the Ukrainian Minister of Defense joining via video call—on the details regarding the drone we ‘fished out’ in Greece; it is Ukrainian.”
“The presence of this maritime drone affects the freedom and safety of navigation,” the Defense Minister added.
“This is an extremely serious matter,” Nikos Dendias concluded in his statement.
Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis also addressed the issue of the marine drone carrying explosives in Lefkada yesterday, Monday, during the Foreign Affairs Council in Brussels.
Mr. Gerapetritis described it as “a particularly serious development,” announcing that “once the investigation is complete and the necessary technical details have been established, the Greek government will respond with the necessary diplomatic steps,” sending a clear message in all directions regarding the limits of the Greek authorities’ tolerance for such incidents.
