The elderly woman, who had initially been resuscitated with CPR on Thursday morning by lifeguards on the Epanomi River, in eastern Thessaloniki.

Earlier, the municipality of Thermaikos had reported that the 72-year-old woman had been pulled from the water unconscious and that she had regained consciousness thanks to the lifeguards’ immediate intervention.

The woman was picked up around 1 p.m. by an EKAB ambulance and transported to the General Hospital of Thessaloniki “Papanikolaou,” where she ultimately succumbed to her injuries and died, according to voria.gr.
A preliminary investigation is being conducted by the First Port Police Station of Nea Michaniona, part of the Thessaloniki Central Port Authority.
