The fine was imposed by the chief of the Peneios Police Department, according to the 60-year-old’s lawyers, who have announced that they will file written objections and subsequently appeal to the Administrative Court of First Instance in Pyrgos.

The petite Sissy had lived for several years in the area where she was killed, cared for by the residents. “Sissy wasn’t just another stray animal. She was a part of our neighborhood, a familiar and beloved presence to those who encountered her every day,” residents told protothema.gr.

It should be noted that the 60-year-old woman had spoken to protothema.gr through her lawyers and claimed that she had no intention of killing the animal and that she did not realize it had been left in the middle of the road, which is why she started her vehicle again.

Specifically, she stated in her statement: “On June 18, 2026, at approximately 9:30 p.m., I was in my car with two other people—namely, a friend and a cousin of mine. I was driving through Gastouni on a local road where construction work was actually underway, I saw a small dog in front of me, braked, and slowed down almost to a stop, assuming that the dog had moved out of the way in the meantime. So I drove on at a very slow speed without realizing that the little animal had remained in the middle of the road, and unfortunately, what happened happened.”

He added: “I’d also like to mention that inside the car, we were talking with the other passengers, and at the same time, we had the radio on and were listening to music. I suspected that the slight jolt the car felt was caused by a rock or a pothole, precisely because of the roadwork being done on the street. I didn’t notice in the slightest what happened, which has left me deeply shaken. I have always been and remain a person with a deep compassion for animals, and I have never in my life even considered harming an animal in the slightest. What happened to me is truly tragic, and both I and my family have lost sleep over it.”
