The Deputy Regional Director of Primary and Secondary Education for Attica, Dionysios K. Anastasopoulos, condemns the attack on the kindergarten teacher.
“We unequivocally and in the strongest possible terms condemn the physical assault against an educator while performing her duties. Any act of violence within the school premises constitutes a direct affront not only to the physical integrity and dignity of the educator, but also to the very institution of public education.
As the administration, we make it clear that we have a zero-tolerance policy. From the very beginning, we have stood firmly by our colleague’s side, providing her with full moral, administrative, and legal support.
It is reiterated to all parties that the State has fortified the school environment. According to Article 33 of Law 5090/2024, which amended Article 168 of the Penal Code (Disruption of Public Services):
Anyone who enters a primary or secondary school and in any way (through insults, threats, loud outbursts) disrupts its operation, shall be punished by imprisonment for at least one (1) year and a fine.
If this act involves the commission of a violent offense, the law provides for a prison term of at least two (2) years and a fine.
The competent police and prosecutorial authorities have already taken action to immediately initiate summary proceedings and ensure that the perpetrators are held fully accountable under the law.
At the same time, all support services of the Directorate of Education have been activated to provide psychological support to the school community.
The school is and will remain a place of safety, education, democracy, and culture.
We extend our warmest wishes to the injured teacher for a speedy recovery.”
