Under a Red Code alert, the following areas have been designated for today, following the meeting of the Risk Assessment Committee on the likelihood of wildfires, as the Fire Risk Forecast Map issued by the General Secretariat for Civil Protection predicts a very high risk of fire (risk category 4).
* The Attica Region (including the island of Kythira)
* The Regional Units of Corinthia, Argolis, Arcadia, and Laconia in the Peloponnese Region
* The Region of Crete
* The Regional Units of Boeotia, Phthiotis, Phocis, and Euboea (including the island of Skyros) in the Region of Central Greece
* The Regional Units of Lesbos, Chios, Samos, and Ikaria in the North Aegean Region
* The Regional Units of the Cyclades in the South Aegean Region
* The Regional Unit of Achaea in the Region of Western Greece
The Civil Protection Agency reminds the public that the Red Code mobilization status calls for full mobilization, activating and deploying the necessary personnel and the resources and equipment required to meet the needs, materials, and resources to ensure readiness in the face of an imminent threat, to address emergencies, and to manage the consequences of a catastrophic event, while at the same time implementing short-term recovery, relief, and support measures to mitigate the effects of the disaster.
In this context, the municipalities and regions in the above areas are called upon to immediately convene the Local Civil Protection Operational Coordination Bodies (T.E.S.O.P.P.) and the Regional Civil Protection Operational Coordination Bodies (P.E.S.O.P.P.) respectively, in order to address issues related to preparedness and the management of risks posed by forest fires.
At the same time, the General Secretariat for Civil Protection advises citizens to be particularly cautious and to avoid outdoor activities that could accidentally cause a fire, such as burning dry grass, branches, or yard waste, the use of machinery that produces sparks, such as circular saws and welding equipment, the use of outdoor grills, smoking bees, discarding lit cigarettes, etc. It is also reminded that burning fields is prohibited during the fire season.
If a fire is spotted, citizens are asked to immediately notify the Fire Department by calling 199.

Fire Department on High Alert
Due to forecasts of particularly difficult conditions, the Fire Department, as announced, is maintaining Level 2 operational readiness. Aerial surveillance patrols will be increased, as will patrols by fire, police, and military forces.
In addition, Fire Department personnel in the aforementioned regional units are on partial standby, in order to address the increased operational demands that may arise due to the very high fire risk (risk category 4).
At the same time, for areas of very high risk, the Civil Protection Action Plan for addressing risks posed by wildfires is being implemented, which, among other things, provides for the implementation of a precautionary ban on vehicle traffic and the presence of visitors in national parks, forests, and “vulnerable” areas.
