According to yesterday’s data from the European Copernicus satellite system, the perimeter of the area burned by the major fire that broke out the day before yesterday, Thursday, August 13, in Siviri, Kassandra, Chalkidiki.
Specifically, according to the satellite image of the fire dated August 14, 2026, at 6:56 p.m., the total perimeter of the fire is 248 hectares, which is equivalent to 2,480 stremmata.
It should be noted that the European Union’s Copernicus Service was activated by the Directorate for Emergency Response Planning of the General Secretariat for Civil Protection, following an order from the Secretary General for Civil Protection, Nikos Papaefstathiou, just a few hours after the fire broke out in Siviri, which is estimated to have started around 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.
The purpose of the activation was to produce cartographic products and data for areas of the Municipality of Kassandra, to assist the agencies involved in emergency response and in managing the consequences of the fire.
The request was approved by the European Union, and yesterday afternoon satellite images were released showing the perimeter of the burned area.
The data and maps from the Copernicus Emergency Management Service/Mapping will be made available immediately by the Directorate for Emergency Response Planning of the General Secretariat for Civil Protection to all relevant agencies free of charge to assist in their operations.
It should be noted that the fire has been contained and has had no active front since noon yesterday; however, 110 firefighters with 50 vehicles remain on the scene and are working to tackle scattered hotspots and smoke-producing areas, as well as to prevent any potential flare-ups.
