Gakas and Theodoropoulos in Korydallos Tomorrow: They Ignored the Alarm, Did Not Help Mazonakis, and Were Late in Calling the Ambulance Service

What the hypnotherapist said about the photo

Ioanna Gaka and Ilias Theodoropoulos are expected to be transferred to Korydallos Prison on Thursday, September 17, following the decision by the investigating judge and prosecutor to remand Ioanna Gaka and Ilias Theodoropoulos in pretrial detention in connection with the death of Giorgos Mazonakis.

The detention orders were issued at noon on Wednesday, and the two doctors are expected to be transferred early in the morning. The two defendants now face the felony charge of intentional homicide with possible malice aforethought, committed by omission, following the upgrade of the initial charge from negligent homicide.

The decision to remand them in custody was made following a preliminary hearing lasting approximately 18 hours, while the defense has already announced that it will appeal the pretrial detention orders.

The emergency calls, the delay by the National Ambulance Service (EKAV), and the failure to provide assistance

According to the reasoning behind the pretrial detention, the events that occurred after the singer’s condition began to deteriorate are considered particularly aggravating.

The investigating judge and the prosecutor attribute to the two defendants acts and omissions linked to the loss of human life, while their response to the warnings from the dialysis machine was specifically examined.

According to the information included in the reasoning, the alarms signaled a serious deterioration in Mazonakis’s condition; however, the hemodialysis procedure reportedly continued.

At the same time, particular emphasis was placed on the delay in calling the National Ambulance Service (EKAB). The judicial authorities reportedly concluded that the doctors did not call an ambulance in a timely manner, without providing sufficient justification for the delay, while at the same time, according to the ruling, they were not in a position to provide the necessary assistance to revive the singer from cardiac arrest.

The ruling also notes that the two doctors performed serious medical procedures in a facility without the required authorization and without the appropriate equipment, and without having first, according to the same reasoning, having first conducted the necessary examinations of the patient.

The judicial authorities are also reported to believe that certain actions hindered the further investigation of the case and concealed evidence, a factor that was taken into account in the decision on pretrial detention.

They will challenge the pretrial detention warrant

It should be noted, however, that according to a statement by the attorneys for the two doctors, they are expected to challenge their pretrial detention warrant, noting that, “their clients’ procedural rights have been brutally violated.”

The statement reads as follows:

“The law firm ‘Nikos Agapinos & Associates,’ following the expected development regarding the procedural treatment of its clients, Ilias Theodoropoulos and Ioanna Gaka, as a result of the completely unjustified escalation of the charges, announces that it will immediately challenge the pretrial detention order before the competent Council, as it considers that the procedural rights of its clients have been grossly violated.”

Why did Gaka send Mazonakis’s photo to Komianos?

At the same time, a separate branch of the investigation now concerns the exact reason why Ioanna Gaka sent Nasos Komianos a photograph of Giorgos Mazonakis while the singer was on theplasma removal bed.

Komianos, who claims to be a hypnotherapist and “regression therapist,” was identified as the recipient of the image in question.

In the photograph, Mazonakis appears lying down, with the machine running, his eyes closed, and IV catheters in his arms. The photo was taken at 14:43:36 on September 9, that is, while the plasmapheresis procedure was in progress.

This particular image was later deleted from Gaka’s cell phone. A second photo, taken at 14:45:22, was also recovered from the device, as well as a video created at 14:43:55. All three files were deleted shortly after 7:00 p.m. that same day.

Authorities are now tasked with determining why Gaka chose to send that particular photo to Komianos, exactly what she told him at that moment, and whether there was any discussion regarding Mazonakis or his treatment.

The doctor herself, during her testimony, did not name the recipient, maintaining that photographing patients was her standard practice and clarifying that the photo had not been sent to her husband.

Komianos: “We Have an External, Professional Collaboration”

Nassos Komianos appeared voluntarily at the Evelpidon Police Station, stating that he wishes to make everything he knows available to the courts.

Speaking to protothema.gr, he stated that he had an external professional collaboration with Ioanna Gaka and that in the past she had referred patients to him who wished to undergo therapeutic hypnosis. “Ms. Gaka sent me my photo because we have an external, professional collaboration,” he said, adding that he would provide the rest of the details to the investigator. He clarified, however, that Mazonakis’s photo was not sent to him for the purpose of seeking his advice, without publicly explaining exactly why it had been sent.

Later, outside the Evelpidon Building, he stated that he went of his own accord because, following the latest court developments, he felt he had to contribute through his testimony.

“The preliminary investigation was completed, and I felt that I, too, had to contribute in my own way and give my testimony,” she said. When asked specifically about the photograph and what he knows regarding its purpose, he declined to go into further detail, saying, “I can’t say; it’s part of the investigation.”
