Two arrests were made as part of the investigation into the tragedy that unfolded on Saturday morning (June 27) at the Malevizi shooting range, where a 43-year-old woman from Thessaloniki lost her life.
According to neakriti.gr, specifically, police authorities arrested the president of the shooting club, who is considered responsible for the operation of the facility, as well as the assistant shooting instructor. Charges have been filed against them as part of the investigation into the circumstances of the incident.
At the same time, authorities are examining the process by which the 43-year-old participated in the training session. A temporary 48-hour sports eligibility certificate had been issued for her participation, and the investigation is also focusing on the signature on that document. A handwriting analysis has been ordered to determine whether the signature is genuine or forged.
The Timeline of the Tragedy
The 43-year-old woman, who had traveled to Crete from Thessaloniki for a short vacation, was at the Malevizi shooting range on Saturday morning to participate in a scheduled training session.
According to the information available so far, shortly before the incident, she asked the instructor to step away, telling him that his presence made her feel uncomfortable and was putting pressure on her. As soon as he took a few steps back, the woman reportedly turned the gun on herself and fired.
She was initially taken to Venizelio Hospital in extremely critical condition. Although the doctors made every possible effort to save her, her injuries were particularly severe, including extensive brain damage, and she ultimately succumbed to her injuries a few hours later.
Her family was notified immediately and traveled to Crete, while the police are continuing their preliminary investigation, taking statements and examining all the evidence in order to fully clarify the circumstances under which the tragedy occurred.
