A one-million-Turkish-lira contract killing (approximately 18,000 euros) is behind the murder of the 25-year-old Turkish man that took place on the evening of June 13 in Exarchia.
The case was solved by Homicide Division officers who, after gathering evidence and analyzing footage from security cameras in the area, managed to track down the perpetrator and take him into custody.
According to information from protothema.gr, the suspect is a 28-year-old man from Turkey who, it was revealed, had been hired to murder his compatriot for one million Turkish lira.
Specifically, the police investigation revealed that the suspect was “recruited” in the neighboring country and accepted the contract to kill. He packed his bags and attempted to enter Greece illegally but was unsuccessful.
His second attempt was successful. He crossed the border via Evros, reached Thessaloniki, and from there made his way to Athens. In fact, in order to cover his tracks, he moved between five or six different homes, and on the day of the crime, he had booked two Airbnb listings —one in Exarchia near the murder scene and one in Kallithea.

After executing the 25-year-old, he went to the house in Exarchia, put on new clothes and shoes, and then went to the house in Kallithea. He stayed for a short while and then left there as well.
Despite his efforts to mislead the authorities and cover his tracks, he was unable to hide from the Homicide Division investigators. They identified him and arrested him this morning. During questioning, the man admitted to the charges against him and confessed. They managed to track down the man, a member of the Daltonar gang, in Kallithea, just as he was planning to return to his home country.
What Happened on the Night of the Murder
The murder took place on the steps leading up to Strefi Hill, with local residents reporting that they were startled by at least five successive gunshots. According to statements taken by police, the perpetrator fled toward Strefi Hill, and within minutes the area was cordoned off by police. Five shell casings were found at the scene.
The victim of the attack was well-known in the area and was often seen outside with his small dog.
At the moment he was struck by five (or six) bullets to the head and chest from the 9mm gun, the dog was with him. When police officers and EKAΒ paramedics approached the wounded man—and confirmed his death—they noticed that the dog was standing silently and had hidden itself under the dead man’s arm. Despite pleas from police officers and local residents, the dog would not leave him, and since it was in shock, they decided not to move it.
