Officials from the Fire Department proceeded with the arrest of a 57-year-old woman on charges of arson in Corinthia.
Specifically, investigators from the Arson Crimes Investigation Units (A.K.A.E.E.) of the Fire Department’s Arson Crimes Investigation Directorate (D.A.E.E.) of the Fire Department investigated a fire that was deliberately set yesterday at 6:46 p.m. in dry grass in Corinthia.
According to the investigation, the 57-year-old woman started the fire using an open flame, causing the dry grass to catch fire. Following the completion of the preliminary investigation, the 57-year-old was arrested under the procedure for crimes committed in flagrante delicto and will be brought before the competent prosecuting authority today.
Meanwhile, according to the Fire Department, officials from the Arson Crimes Response Directorate (DAEE), who assisted the Corinth Arson Crimes Investigation Unit (AKAEE) in solving the case.
As noted by the Fire Department, this is the ninth case of arson committed with intent that has been solved since the beginning of the year. Of the total 134 arrests made as of June 28, 2026, for violations of fire safety laws, 9 involved arson, accounting for 6.72%, while the remaining 125 involved fires caused by negligence, accounting for 93.28%.
Finally, as noted by the Fire Department, the Arson Crimes Investigation Directorate (DAEE) and the Fire Department’s investigative units remain on high operational alert, conducting intensive inspections and immediately imposing the applicable criminal and administrative penalties whenever violations of the law are detected.
