Commotion broke out in the village of Palaia Giannitsou in the Municipality of Makrakomi, Fthiotida, late Monday night (August 17, 26) when gunshots were fired near the town square.
According to the Lamia Report, the first gunshots were heard around 10:30 p.m., causing panic among the village residents, while around 1:00 a.m., when they were heard again, everyone sprang to their feet.
The community president, Yiannis Deligiannis, immediately went to the spot where the gunshots were coming from to see what was happening and found a 57-year-old man, who is not a permanent resident of the village, who was at the scene, and noticed that the streetlights were broken.

The 57-year-old was reportedly amusing himself by shooting at the streetlights or into the air and refused to comply with the president’s instructions. Meanwhile, the agitated residents had already alerted the police.
A short time later, officers from the Special Operations Unit (OPKE) and the Spercheiada Police Station arrived in Palaia Giannitsou, but the man had already managed to flee; he was located in the early morning hours, at which point he was handcuffed for the reckless shooting and property damage. A search of the 57-year-old’s home followed, in the presence of a judicial officer, during which police officers managed to locate and seize a handgun, bullets, and drugs.
Criminal charges have been filed against the 57-year-old, and he will be brought before the Lamia Public Prosecutor’s Office.
