On the morning of July 10, 2026, a 45-year-old foreign national was taken into custody by the authorities at Athens Airport, who was the subject of a European arrest warrant issued by Belgium.

The man was arrested in the departure lounge shortly before boarding a flight to Cyprus.

According to the charges, the 45-year-old had been involved since 2023 in an international ring that defrauded citizens through purported investments in cryptocurrencies. He acted as an “account manager,” taking on the role of contacting and guiding potential victims, and managed to illegally obtain over 160,000 euros.

The suspect was brought before the prosecutor.
