The Directorate for Combating Organized Crime (DAOE) proceeded to arrest two individuals, as part of ongoing investigations into the arson attack on May 5, 2010, at the Marfin branch on Stadiou Street in Athens, which resulted in the deaths of three employees.
The arrests were made pursuant to relevant warrants, while a 46-year-old woman is still being sought in connection with the same case; according to reports, she is currently in the United Kingdom.
According to reports, the two individuals arrested are 42 years old and are known to the authorities.
The investigation is ongoing.
It should be noted that on May 5, 2010, three days before the first bailout agreement was passed, three employees of Marfin Bank on Stadiou Street— Angeliki Papathanassopoulou, who was pregnant with her first child, Epameinondas Tsakalis, and Paraskevi Zoulia, lost their lives in a fire set by hooded assailants.
The perpetrators had infiltrated the large protest rally against the measures that had been announced a few days earlier. They threw Molotov cocktails while employees were inside the branch.
More than twenty people were present at the time of the arson—which, as it turned out, was a deadly attack inside the neoclassical building, with the three losing their lives in the fire caused by the Molotov cocktails.
