“I’m devastated, and I wish I could turn back time, but I bear no responsibility. She was an adult and knew what she was taking,” says the 20-year-old who was arrested in connection with the death of his friend, also 20, in Thessaloniki, following the use of drugs during a party at a multipurpose venue.

The defendant appeared today before the 5th Special Drug Investigating Judge of Thessaloniki, and following his testimony, it was decided to release him subject to restrictive conditions, such as a ban on leaving the country and a requirement to report to a police station in his area.

He has been charged with a felony for endangering life and, additionally, with the misdemeanor offenses of supplying, possessing, and using narcotic substances.

According to reports, he claimed during questioning that “we both agreed to take the narcotic substance MDMA, and we did not consume a large amount of alcohol. When we arrived at the bar, we ordered a drink, and we dissolved the drug in water and took equal amounts in turn. I didn’t experience any symptoms, except for feeling a little dizzy. When the drug started to take effect, she suddenly found herself in a semi-unconscious state,” he reportedly said.

As he claimed, “At that moment, I grabbed her to get her out of the store, and the store employees noticed and helped us leave. I’m very sorry, but I’m not responsible for what happened. She was an adult and knew what we were taking.”

The 20-year-old’s defense attorney, Konstantinos Tsiplakis, stated in a press release that from the outset they offered their condolences to the 20-year-old’s family and denied the charges.

“Today before the investigating judge, we denied the charges, and the evidence supported this denial; and we truly believe that the alleged defendant bears no responsibility for these specific acts,” he said.

“I believe that the evidence leaves no doubt that the deceased consented. These were adults acting of their own free will, who knew where they were going and under what circumstances they wanted to have fun. Unfortunately, however, this tragic event occurred,” he noted.

Meanwhile, on Tuesday morning (October 13), the alleged supplier of the drugs consumed by the 20-year-old was also arrested.

Arrest warrants had been issued against him by the investigating judge, and during the search that was conducted, quantities of MDMA were found, along with other narcotics and a scale.

According to the same reports, the suspect has a criminal record for drug-related offenses.

On Sunday, the prosecutor filed criminal charges against persons unknown for a particularly serious case of trafficking in narcotic substances capable of causing serious bodily harm or death. This charge is directed against the person from whom the specific narcotic substance was procured.

According to the police, the incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday morning at a multi-purpose event venue where an electronic music party was taking place. The young woman lost consciousness and was taken to a hospital in Thessaloniki, where, despite the doctors’ efforts, she died a few hours later—on the morning of the same day.

Officers from the Thermi Crime Investigation and Prosecution Division arrested her 20-year-old boyfriend, while police investigations are ongoing to identify the individual who supplied the specific narcotic substance.
