Gavdos is in mourning over the death of 16-year-old Nikola, who was killed in a car accident that occurred at noon on Saturday (October 3), in the Chersonissos area.
The 16-year-old had spent his childhood and grown up on Gavdos with his family. Recently, however, he had moved to Chersonissos following the death of his father in 2025.

The news that Nikolas lost his life at the age of just 16 caused deep sorrow in the local community of Gavdos, where he was well known and had grown up among the island’s residents.
In a statement, the Municipality of Gavdos bids farewell to 16-year-old Nikolas, while expressing its condolences to his family and loved ones.
The statement from the Municipality of Gavdos:
“With deep sorrow and unspeakable grief, we bid farewell to Nikola, a 16-year-old boy from our island of Gavdos.
A young boy from our island has left us so unjustly and so soon. With him, it seems as though a piece of Gavdos’s future has been erased.
His loss leaves behind a void that cannot be described in words.
To his family, on behalf of the Municipality of Gavdos, we offer our warmest and most sincere condolences. There are no words that can ease such pain.
Rest in peace, our boy.
Gavdos will remember you and will always carry you in its heart.
To your loved ones, we wish strength and courage.”
