Authorities are scrutinizing the past of the 48-year-old man of Albanian descent, who, in the early hours of Sunday morning, murdered his 45-year-old compatriot in Nea Smyrni and then took his own life.
The police officers handling the case are thoroughly examining the nature of the 48-year-old’s relationship with the victim, as well as his electronic devices. Footage from the security cameras at the scene is also crucial to the investigation, as they captured the crime. The footage in the authorities’ possession reportedly shows the man waiting for the 45-year-old woman outside her home until she exited the house. When the woman opened the door and stepped out of the house, the 48-year-old shot her and then turned the revolver on himself and took his own life.

However, police are also investigating the suspect’s past in Albania, as according to information from protothema.gr, the 45-year-old had also come to the attention of Albanian authorities in 2016, when he was arrested in Tirana on charges of raping his wife.
