The Hellenic Police is compiling a case file for the crime of homicide against the individuals arrested at the apartment in Kypseli where a dead infant was found frozen inside a barrel.
In this context, the questioning of the suspects will begin today, while the questioning of the three minors who were in the home (a 15-year-old girl and two boys aged 9 and 12) is pending, to be conducted in accordance with the procedures established by the Children’s Home and in the presence of specialized child psychologists.
The murder was revealed by the medical examiner’s examination, which found at least 10 stab wounds on the infant’s back; the latest information indicatesthat he had been stabbed with a knife.
According to current assessments, the baby was born and then murdered. So far, however, it has not been possible to determine with certainty either the infant’s age or the time of death.
As Hellenic Police spokesperson Konstantia Dimoglidou stated on Tuesday morning “None of the suspects has explained the circumstances under which the infant was found, with the family claiming that the baby was born in a maternity hospital without providing further details.”
The 43-year-old’s chilling account
In an attempt to explain what happened, the 43-year-old Greek man, who has been arrested—for the time being—on a felony charge related to drug trafficking and a misdemeanor for failing to report the discovery of a dead body, testified, among other things, that the baby was crying constantly, and he also referred to his wife’s condition. At the same time, he claimed that at the maternity ward, they had switched the child and given them another baby, whom he described as “possessed.”
“The baby cried constantly, and my wife was devastated. They swapped it out for us at the maternity ward and gave us another one that was possessed by the devil, and as soon as it died, peace returned to our home,” he reportedly told the police.
Questions About Sexually Transmitted Diseases in Children
It should be noted that two of the children found in the apartment (the 15-year-old, who is pregnant, and the 9-year-old boy) were diagnosed with sexually transmitted diseases, with Ms. Dimoglidou stating that “an investigation is underway to determine how they contracted these diseases.”
Police sources said that suitcases containing sex toys were also found in the Kypseli apartment, while the three children had been taken to the Children’s Hospital in 2025 when they were found wandering alone and unaccompanied on the street.
