Eight people were injured in a fire that broke out at a business in Aspopyrgos, at the intersection of Megaridos and Chios Streets, this morning (July 9).
Seven people are being treated at Thriassio Hospital. Two are on ventilators and in serious condition. Three have minor injuries and may be discharged later today, while two other injured individuals went to the hospital on their own and have already been discharged.
One intubated patient, who is in serious condition, was transferred to Attiko Hospital and is expected to be transferred to the KAT Burn Unit.
The fire broke out under circumstances that remain unknown at this time at a business dealing in auto parts. A large contingent of firefighters rushed to the scene immediately.
According to the Fire Department, there is reportedly a truck with a propane tank inside the business premises, a fact that is causing concern.
Message from 112
Shortly after 8:30 a.m., a message was sent from 112.
“Fire in the Aspropyrgos area of the Attica Region. If you are in the area of Megaridos Street in Aspropyrgos, please evacuate toward Aspropyrgos via Agios Georgios Street,” the message states.
Due to the fire, the following traffic closures are in effect:
- – Megaridos Street from the intersection with Agios Georgios Street to NATO Avenue.
- – Agios Georgios Street from the intersection with Chios Street, in the direction of Megaridos Street.
- – Chios Street from the intersection with Agios Georgios Street.

As seen in the videos and photos below, a black cloud of smoke has spread over the business.
According to the Fire Department, the fire has now developed a strong thermal load, and firefighting crews are working to contain it.
There are 75 firefighters on the scene with 20 vehicles, as well as 4 specialized vehicles, including 2 boom-equipped vehicles, one specialized refinery-type boom truck, and one specialized breathing apparatus refilling vehicle, while one helicopter is also assisting from the air.
Water tankers from the Municipality of Aspropyrgos are assisting in the firefighting operation.
It should be noted that the Western Attica Arson Investigation Unit is heading to the fire site to investigate its causes.
