Tensions flared again yesterday afternoon at the special detention facility in Sintiki, Serres.
According to the police, at around 5:20 p.m., a group of about 50 migrants housed in the facility’s third wing threw stones at police officers and attempted to damage the perimeter fence. With the intervention of the police, the situation was quickly brought under control, and no injuries or escapes were reported.
Similar scenes of tension have been recorded in recent times, culminating in the incidents that took place on August 22, when damage was caused to the facilities, while 25 migrants were arrested and more than ten escaped.
It should be noted that approximately 210 migrants reside in this particular, closed facility, the majority of whom are from Egypt and Bangladesh.
