On the orders of the head of the Anti-Money Laundering Authority, former Deputy Prosecutor of the Supreme Court Charalambos Vourliotis, an investigation is immediately being launched, focusing on the doctors involved in the case of Giorgos Mazonakis’s death, in order to determine whether the crime of money laundering has been committed.

As part of the investigation, all evidence that has come to light will be evaluated, while the Authority’s teams will thoroughly examine all financial records of the two doctors currently in custody.
As required by law, if evidence of money laundering emerges, the head of the independent authority will proceed to freeze assets, such as bank accounts, real estate, etc., and will forward the information to the prosecutor.
In a special area of Korydallos Prison, the two doctors
For security reasons and to ensure the smooth operation of the correctional facility, as well as to protect the doctors themselves, the two defendants will be held in specially designated areas of Korydallos Prison.
According to information from the General Secretariat for Anti-Crime Policy reported by the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA), Ioanna Gaka will be held alone in a cell in the women’s wing of the correctional facility, while Ilias Theodoropoulos will be held in a corresponding area in the men’s prison.
These are isolated areas to which access by other inmates is restricted, in order to avoid security issues and ensure the protection of the two pretrial detainees.
The detention orders were issued at noon on Wednesday, with the two defendants being charged with the felony of intentional homicide with possible malice, committed by omission, following the upgrade of the initial charge from causing death by negligence.
