A new perspective on what happened at the clinic on Karneadou Street when George Mazonakis collapsed was provided by the testimony of an employee who appeared before the investigating judge today.
She is a 61-year-old retired nurse, who works part-time at that clinic and described how panic broke out in the clinic when Giorgos Mazonakis’s health began to deteriorate.

She recanted her initial statement that she had left
“The doctor told us that we are all jointly responsible,” she reportedly told the investigator, describing what happened after the ambulance service picked up Giorgos Mazonakis, while she recanted her initial statement to the police, in which she claimed she had left at 4:15 p.m.
“They called us all into Mazonakis’s room; there was panic.”
“I was in the infirmary. The doctor called all the female employees to go to the room where George Mazonakis was. There was panic,” she testified, according to reports, adding: “At first I said I left at 4:15 p.m., because I had lost track of time. I left later.”
“The doctor would not accept any criticism”
The witness claimed she had no contact with the doctor after the singer’s death and stated that the defendant would not accept any criticism.
According to reports, the employees are in limbo following the pretrial detention of the two doctors, as their employment contracts have not been terminated and they have not ruled out the possibility of taking legal action.
The 32nd regular investigating judge is continuing the investigation by taking statements. Tomorrow, one of the employees of the clinic on Karneadou Street—who was not called as a witness during the preliminary investigation—is likely to testify.
