Cardiac Innovation Center

The Cardiac Innovation Center at Apollon Private Hospital is a leading cardiac surgery center in Cyprus for adults and children, providing comprehensive care for a wide range of cardiac surgical conditions.

Since its founding in July 2021, more than 1,700 cardiac surgeries have been performed, with the continuous development and implementation of modern surgical techniques.

Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery

Particular emphasis is placed on Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery (MIC), with more than 300 procedures performed to date.

The minimally invasive techniques performed at the Center include:

• Procedures on all heart valves—aortic, mitral, tricuspid, and pulmonary valves.

• Minimally invasive coronary artery bypass grafting (MIDCAB)

• Removal of cardiac tumors, such as myxomas

• Procedures for congenital heart defects, such as atrial septal defect (ASD), Sinus Venosus Defect with Partial Anomalous Pulmonary Venous Connection (PAPVC), as well as other selected congenital heart anomalies.

Adult Cardiac Surgery

In addition to minimally invasive techniques, the Center performs a wide range of adult cardiac surgical procedures, including surgery for coronary artery disease (CABG, OPCAB), repair and replacement of all heart valves, aortic and aneurysm surgery, as well as complex procedures and revisions.

Congenital Heart Disease Surgery

The Cardiac Innovation Center is the only center in Cyprus that provides cardiac surgical care to children and adults with congenital heart defects.

Patient care is based on the collaboration of cardiac surgeons, pediatric cardiologists, cardiac anesthesiologists, intensivists, and specialized nursing staff.

Specialized Heart ICU & ECMO

The Center features a specialized and separate Cardiac Surgery and Pediatric Cardiac Surgery Intensive Care Unit (Heart ICU), specifically designed for the postoperative and intensive care of adults and children.

For patients requiring advanced cardiopulmonary support, ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) and Impella are also available.

LVAD Program

The Cardiac Innovation Center has established a structured LVAD (Left Ventricular Assist Device) program for selected patients with advanced heart failure.

The program is in the final stages of completing the necessary procedures, with the goal of beginning implantations in the near future.

Hemodynamic Laboratory

With the most experienced team of interventional cardiologists and nurses and state-of-the-art equipment, our hospital’s Hemodynamic Laboratory is the largest and most comprehensive facility in Cyprus for the diagnosis and treatment of heart disease.

Since February 2022, a new, state-of-the-art hemodynamic laboratory has been in operation, featuring a digital angiography system and fully equipped to meet the demands of modern interventional cardiology. The staff is highly specialized and available 24/7.

Since 2023, a dedicated Cardiology Clinic has been in operation, staffed by 6 clinical cardiologists, 3 interventional cardiologists, and 2 electrophysiologists.

The Catheterization Center operates 24/7 for primary percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI).

We use all modern techniques, such as thermal ablation (RFA, Cryoablation) and the new, innovative Pulsed Field Ablation (PFA), offering targeted, safe, and effective treatment without open surgery.

Heart ICU – Specialized Cardiology & Cardiac Surgery Support

The establishment of the Heart ICU at Apolloneio Private Hospital marks another step forward in the evolution of modern cardiac care, where immediate response, expertise, and safety come together with cutting-edge technology.

The new 11-bed intensive care unit was designed to support cardiological and cardiac surgical cases requiring intensive monitoring under the full coordination of a specializedcomposed of cardiologists, cardiac surgeons, and intensivists.

The unit includes:

• 6 cardiac surgery beds
• 5 cardiology beds

In close collaboration with the Cardiac Innovation Center, the Cardiology Clinic, and the Hemodynamic Laboratory, continuity of care is ensured from surgery through rehabilitation.
