An incredible incident occurred on Tuesday (July 7) in Cypress, Texas, when, while a 13-year-old was playing video games on his computer, a lightning bolt struck his room.
According to KPRC 2 News, the teenager, Vlad Skuridin, was suddenly struck by lightning in the abdomen through a metal part of his desk that was in contact with his skin.
Describing the dramatic moments he experienced, the young man said, “I was just sitting here; everything was going fine. I was playing video games; I wasn’t expecting anything,” while noting that “I just jumped up really fast and started screaming. It was crazy. I honestly thought I was going to die. I didn’t think I’d survive that. I don’t know how I managed to survive.”
His family believes that a nearby tree was struck by lightning and that the electrical discharge traveled directly to their home and struck the young man through the metal part of his desk. At the same time, a small fire broke out in the attic of the house, which, according to investigators, was caused by the lightning that penetrated the building’s electrical system.
Vlad’s father alerted the authorities, and police and fire department personnel rushed to the scene. The family’s home sustained only minor property damage, including a hole in the wall.
Emergency medical teams examined the 13-year-old at his home and determined that he did not need hospital care. “I feel fine, but I’m still a little shocked and dizzy. No, not from the electric shock or the lightning, but just everything that happened here is crazy,” Vlad said that night. “Anything can happen at any moment. You just have to be nice to everyone. It could end at any moment. It could end whenever you want, man,” the teenager added.

After the intense flash of lightning, Mark Herman of the Harris County 4th Precinct issued a warning to families in light of the additional thunderstorms forecast for the Cypress area in the coming days. “Safety reminder: During thunderstorms, avoid using corded electronic devices and stay away from electrical wiring and plumbing, as lightning can travel through a home’s electrical system,” the Police Department wrote on Facebook.
