Arjun Aravid, 17, was arrested in Massachusetts, U.S., for the murder of his 45-year-old mother and his 14-year-old brother.
According to police, prior to the double murder, the 17-year-old had used ChatGPT to create chilling “fantasy stories” about the murder of his family.
The 45-year-old, Sunda Venkatesan, and the 14-year-old, Siddharth Aravid, were found dead at the family’s home in Acton, Massachusetts, on Tuesday night.
As Middlesex County District Attorney Marian Ryan stated, the 17-year-old high school student had recently exhibited “concerning behavior” prior to the murders, including using an AI chatbot to create “theoretical ideas or fantasy stories about murdering his family.”
The crime came to light when the 17-year-old’s father contacted the police and reported that a tutor who had come for a private lesson was unable to enter the house. The 45-year-old woman’s husband had last spoken with his wife earlier that morning, before leaving for work.
When the police entered the house, they found the 14-year-old dead on the first floor, while his mother was found in the basement.
Aravid, who fled in his mother’s car, was arrested a day later in a neighboring town when police officers spotted him during a random check outside a store.
