The death toll from the fierce wave of attacks that struck Kyiv in the early hours of yesterday morning continues to rise as the hours pass.
At least 27 people were killed and more than 90 were injured, according to the latest figures released by Timur Tkachenko, head of the military administration in the Ukrainian capital.
It was the deadliest barrage of Russian attacks on Kyiv since the beginning of the year. In May, 24 people lost their lives as a result of Russian strikes on the Ukrainian capital.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who cut short his visit to Ireland and rushed back to his country, visited a nine-story apartment building that had been partially destroyed and blamed Ukraine’s allies for not yet supplying the country with the air defense systems they hadpromised.
“If our partners had fulfilled their promises in a timely manner, I think we would have saved more homes and lives today (yesterday),” said Zelenskyy, who appeared tired and visibly shaken.
“All we ask of our partners is simply that they do what we agreed upon. We’re not asking for anything more,” he added.
The Russian Ministry of Defense, in a post on Telegram, reported that the “massive attack” with precision-guided missiles, long-range precision missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles struck military and energy facilities, as well as airports in Kyiv and other regions of Ukraine.
Moscow says the attacks were in retaliation for recent incursions by Ukrainian drones into Russia.
