Andy Burnham announced that he will be a candidate in the process to succeed Keir Starmer as leader of the Labour Party.
In a statement, Bernam paid tribute to the outgoing party leader, noting that Starmer has rendered significant service to the country and guided the party through a particularly challenging period.
“Keir has contributed a great deal to our country, and I want to thank him for his leadership, commitment, and dedication during an extremely difficult time,” he said.
He emphasized that Starmer’s decision marks the beginning of a transitional period for the party, stressing the need for the succession process to be conducted in an orderly, responsibility, and in accordance with established procedures.
“I will stand as a candidate as part of this process,” he said, officially confirming his intention to run for the leadership of the Labour Party.

Stritting revealed that he had held extensive discussions with Burnham in recent days, concluding that party unity must be a priority.
“We can spend the summer dwelling on minor differences, or we can roll up our sleeves and help him bring about the changes our party and our country need,” he noted.
